Jun 30, 2019· I have a Barley Crusher mill and I like it just fine. I bought it because I was getting an inconsistent coarse crush from my LHBS. I brew BIAB so a finer crush was important to me and consistency was even more important to reliably reproduce the same beer. My gap is at .024 but once again I BIAB so the concept of a stuck sparge is foreign to me.

It's exactly what I was looking for at about the price I was willing to pay. I was looking forward to my first equipment buy from Northern Brewer.
The barley crusher worked well for the first 4-5 uses, however the o-ring snapped only allowing 1 roller to move. After doing some research I found I was not the only one with this issue. After getting a new o-ring, taking apart the grain mill, installing the new o-ring, the mill work well again.

Jan 12, 2010· On, where I got this mill, they suggest using a drill, and suggest 400rpm as the speed. I'm going to get a feeler gauge tomorrow, clean the heck out of the mill, and lubricate it a bit (with some tri-flo thats all I have). The right hand roller is pretty hard to roll compared to the left, and the mill runs very noisy.

I think most people have went with the barley crusher because of ease of use and price, but if they are the same price the crank looks more robust and has bigger rollers.
